You may have caught wind of Kylie Jenner’s extravagant push present  and are wondering exactly what that is. You’re not alone. The push present is a relatively recent thing, but its presence is most welcome to moms around the world.

What is a Push Present?

A push present (less commonly called a birth bauble) is what we call a gift given to the mother of a brand new baby. This gift is usually initiated by the child’s other parent as a way to show appreciation for all of mom’s hard work.

It’s a way to say thank you for carrying and delivering our precious child into this world. And we can think of no more appropriate time for a show of appreciation than after childbirth.

Are Push Presents Appropriate After a C-Section?

The answer to this question is a resounding YES! Although, we do understand that the name “push present” gives reason for question. But any mom who has had a C-section will tell you that the process is just as physically and emotionally draining as “pushing” out a baby in a natural birth. Even though C-section moms aren’t literally pushing, the meaning behind the gift is just as relevant. Whether after natural birth or C-section, every new mom deserves a nice gift.

Push Present Origin

No one is exactly sure where the push present began. We do know that fathers have been honoring their wives with postnatal gifts for many years without a formal name for it. Somewhere around 2010, the name push present started gaining traction and more parents began taking on this tradition.

Historically, push presents have been given by wealthy parents, but this trend seems to be changing. As these gifts become more well-known, many middle-class families are adopting the tradition.

Push Present Etiquette

There aren’t any hard and fast rules when it comes to push presents. You can bet Kylie Jenner is enjoying her black Ferrari, but these gifts are rarely cars.

As you’re planning your gift, keep in mind that it is to honor your partner’s hard work and sacrifice. And make no mistake about it, she sacrificed her body for at least nine months to nourish this child.

Jewelry makes for a great birth bauble because it’s something she can cherish for a lifetime. Many fathers give these gifts in the hospital after birth, but some wait until after she comes home with the baby. There’s no wrong way to give a push present.

There are, however, wrong push presents to give. Avoid anything that may imply she is a work in progress, regardless of whether you think she’ll get the joke. Unless she’s asked for one, a gym membership is a terrible push present. The same goes for stretch mark creams and diet books. The only etiquette you need to know about push presents is that they are meant to lift her spirits and show your love.

Jewelry Push Present Ideas

When you’re looking for jewelry push present ideas, think personal. Something handcrafted (like the jewelry at Bahdos) will give your gift a special edge.

Consider engraved or engravable jewelry or a journey necklace to symbolize the journey of life that you’re taking as a new family. Birthstone jewelry, such as stackable rings, earring studs or a simple pendant are other push presents that we love to see our clients gift future moms because of the meaning it will bring to mom every time she looks at it.

In the end, the best push present is one that comes from your own heart.
